If you’d told the teenage version of me — the boy who deliberately “forgot” his PE kit whenever cross country was on the timetable, or who miraculously found something better to do when running was involved — that I’d one day become a runner, I’d have laughed at you. Running was never for me. It felt like punishment, not sport. Something reserved for “real athletes,” not the kid who’d do anything to avoid it. Fast forward a few decades. At the start of 2024, aged 44, I found myself starting to run. I had been on a work trip the day after the London marathon. One of the guests on the trip had just done it and said it was ok. A colleague then kept saying that anyone could do…
When you work in sales or client-facing roles, drinking isn’t just social—it’s part of the job. Dinners, events, late trains home, going to the hotel bar after dinner. A glass of wine here, a pint there. Nothing dramatic. Nothing reckless. But if you’re out two or three nights a week, the units start adding up before you even realise. That was the rhythm I found myself in. And while I was never the guy stumbling out of a bar or chasing the last round (ok occasionally I was - but it certainly wasn't a habit), I started noticing a different kind of hangover—one that crept in slowly. Less energy. Less sharpness. Just… less me. It wasn't something that I felt was bad but I knew with an increased effort in…
I’ve tried my fair share of supplements and vitamins over the years, usually with the same result: a burst of good intentions, a few days of remembering to take them, then the inevitable slide as the bottles end up pushed to the back of the cupboard and forgetting to take them with me on one of my many trips. Most don’t make enough of a difference to notice, and I lose interest. Heights turned out to be different. Within a couple of weeks, I could feel the change — and that’s what’s kept using them every single day. The first thing I noticed was energy. Not the buzzy, short-lived kick you get from sugary drinks, Red Bull or Coffee (I can't stand it but I know people swear by it!),…
As I've been getting older I've been more conscious about trying to look after myself more. This comes both in the way of diet, personal trainer and fitness, and also things like my skin care with the use of Bulldog products. More recently I've now moved to using Watermans Grow Me Shampoo and Conditioner as well. In my late 30's I had started to notice that my hair had both started to thin and also recced. I really had no fuss about turning grey that didn't bother me - but I know that I didn't want to go bald! It's probably not something that I could control I thought (bar expensive surgery) - but I was determined to see what I could do what I could about it. This is…
Life can get a little difficult at times. Even for someone like me who's fairly confident and outgoing, behind the closed doors of home we all reach difficulties at some point. Burnout is a real thing, and it’s something that we should really all avoid if we’re to lead the busy lives that we do. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, too much work can ruin us mentally and physically. Have you ever been burnt out due to work or something similarly straining? You probably have done. If you haven’t, then you’re a lucky individual – or you have great management skills! Burning out is so strange – we genuinely feel as though all of the energy has been sucked from our body. We stop thinking straight, and our…
