Mercure Nottingham City Centre

The Final stay of 2016 saw me staying at the Mercure Nottingham City Centre hotel. The hotel is situated right in the middle of the city centre. When walking into the room you can see the free ear plugs (as well as the extra double glazing) – a nice touch but a clue its where it is! The hotel dates back many years and thus off the main corridors it’s a network of small passages and landings to finding the room rather than a more modern planned layout.

However once in the room it was modern, spacious had bonuses such like the addition of sockets by the bed. The bathroom was clean and tidy. In the room there was also the addition of Sky Sports on the TV which I haven’t seen before at a Mercure. Also there was a nice touch with some basic free drinks in the mini bar. It’s not much but a nice change!

As mentioned the hotel is right in the city centre with excellent access to the variety of bars, restaurants and clubs. Attached to the hotel is a seafood restaurant that I didn’t use (I can’t stand seafood!) but within a short walk is the usual Bills, Pizza Express, Zizzi etc..

Upon arrival I was awarded an upgrade to a better room than was booked, and all the staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helpful at all times.

In the hotel there is a nice small gym – something I din’t expect in a city based old hotel.

Breakfast was the usual Mercure Hotel fare with a good selection of continental breakfast as well as full cooked breakfast should it be wanted. The breakfast’s are served in a small room on the first floor.

Parking isn’t located at the hotel – but they do have a deal with the NCP around the corner. Reception will validate your ticket giving a discount on parking

Summary

Hotel Address: 2 George St, Nottingham NG1 3BP

Wifi: Free, and good speed
Sockets by Bed: Yes
Shower: Excellent

Official Star Rating: 4 Stars
TS Rating: 4
TS Comment: A very lovely city centre hotel. Noise was a bit of a problem – but you are slap bang in the city centre with excellent access to a lot of facilities. Given the old nature of the building the room was spacious and smart. Very nice end to 2016 travels.
